Would stay again, central location

TripAdvisor rating 5.0/5

Maggagles Couples - TripAdvisor review

A good accomidation facility to stay in. Staff were welcoming and happily allowed us to leave our bags at reception until check in time as we had an early flight. We unexpectedly got a call to advise our room.was ready prior to check in that was a pleasant suprise. Room was upstairs (if you have mobility issues please ask for an accesable room when booking ground floor as no elevators in this property) we were all good with stairs no issues. We had a 2 night stay here and could have easilly stayed longer loved the location as its central to amenities. I'll stay here again next time I come back to uluru and will recommend to others too. Room was also very clean well done to housekeeping team! Was great to have a dip in the pool on a warm afternoon after some exploring.

Thank you, Maggagles, we are delighted to hear you had a great stay and appreciated the early check-in call, central location, and warm hospitality from our team. It’s also lovely to know the team made a positive impression. Thank you for highlighting the stairs and accessibility. We appreciate you recommending us.

Basic, clean and functional

Isla D Couples - TripAdvisor review

Basic hotel, clean with comfortable bed. We had a couple of minor issues at check in and were more than happy with the reception response. Room was very dark, only windows in the bathroom, making it a bit depressing. No bar or restaurant however it is right next to the square with a restaurant, cafe, shopping area and a supermarket. Nice clean pool area. Basically this hotel does everything you need on a budget.

Dear Isla, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're glad to hear you found the room clean, the bed comfortable, and that our reception team was helpful in resolving the check-in issues. We appreciate your comments regarding the room lighting. The design is intentionally set with windows in the bathroom only. It’s great to know you enjoyed the pool area and convenient location near the Town Square’s dining and shopping options. Thank you for choosing to visit Ayers Rock Resort.

More a hostel than hotel

570siobhang Couples - TripAdvisor review

If you go into this stay thinking you’re staying at a hostel, you’ll be impressed. If you want a hotel, you’ll be disappointed. It’s very basic and the rooms are small. I wish we’d stayed elsewhere and had a larger room because there’s not much to do during the day so you want to retreat to your room. Unfortunately, the rooms at the Lost Camel are small and dark making it less than ideal to spend a lot of time in.

Dear 570siobhang, Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear the room did not meet your expectations. The Lost Camel is designed as a boutique accommodation option. We’d also like to mention that we offer a variety of free guest activities across the resort, and the overall experience is designed to encourage early starts and daytime exploration, allowing guests to relax and unwind in the evenings. We hope you enjoyed the unique environment of the region.

Poor service and contact ability

IBE B Couples - TripAdvisor review

Stayed for 2 nights. Had half a roll of toilet paper on arrival ( lucky we had more in the car ) as you cannot contact anyone after 5pm - actually it was 4-45pm. Room service next morning and we thought great! Nope did not put any in again. Rooms were clean but the fact you cannot contact them after a day out when they have not done their job, sucks!!! Would choose another place for sure next time.

Dear Ibe B, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear about the inconvenience you experienced with room servicing and the difficulty reaching our team after hours. This certainly doesn’t reflect the standard of care we aim to provide. Please know that while reception at The Lost Camel closes, our guests are always welcome to contact the 24/7 reception team at Sails in the Desert for assistance. We regret that if this wasn’t clearly communicated during your or prior stay. hank you again for visiting, and we wish you safe and happy travels ahead. Kind regards

A heartbreaking experience involving poisoned wildlife near the hotel

TripAdvisor rating 1.0/5

Larissa M TripAdvisor review

During our stay at The Lost Camel Hotel, we encountered a deeply upsetting situation: a baby rabbit lying in the smoking area, unable to move, convulsing for over an hour. We tried to contact wildlife services but were told no one would come – “it’s just a rabbit.” By chance, we met a police unit nearby and asked for help. They informed us the animal was most likely poisoned with 1080 bait – a substance that causes slow and painful death in animals, not only rabbits but also other species. When it became clear that the rabbit had no chance of recovery, we asked the officers to end its suffering humanely. It did not die on its own – it had to be put down out of compassion. This experience left a lasting impact. We wondered: • Why is such poison used near tourist areas? • Why are guests not informed? • Who is harmed by a rabbit in the desert? • Is this truly what responsible tourism looks like? We are not writing this to harm reputations, but to raise awareness. This happened right next to a hotel where people come to experience nature. Instead, we witnessed silent suffering. Photo taken shortly before the animal was put to rest.

Dear C8784DFlarissam, Thank you for reaching out to share your experience during your recent visit to Ayers Rock Resort. We genuinely appreciate your thoughtful reflection and concern. We apologise for the distressing situation you encountered and we understand how upsetting it must have been to witness. We would like to assure you that 1080 poison is not used within Voyages’ Ayers Rock Resort grounds. Our Land and Environment Manager has confirmed that we do not use 1080 bait in our pest management practices. When pest management is necessary, we follow strict environmental and ethical guidelines to ensure methods are both humane and effective. This includes using pindone-treated bait, physical control methods, and fencing – all carefully considered with minimal impact on non-target species. The health and balance of our local ecosystem, including the wellbeing of native flora and fauna, is a responsibility we take very seriously. Rabbits are classified as a pest species in this region due to their detrimental impact on native vegetation and ecosystems, as well as their indirect role in attracting wild dogs, which pose safety risks for both guests and staff. That said, we are not currently conducting any baiting activities, which makes the incident you described especially concerning. We will be investigating this further in collaboration with relevant local authorities. Your questions are valid and important. While our resort is situated in a remote and unique landscape where interactions with wildlife can occur, we strive to manage these encounters responsibly and with compassion. We will also reflect on how we can better inform guests and improve our responsiveness to unexpected wildlife events. Thank you again for taking the time to write to us. Your care for animals and the environment aligns closely with our own values, and we are committed to continuous learning and improvement. If you have any further questions or wish to speak with our team directly, please let us know.
