You pay quite a premium for this hotel, but it doesn't deliver a premium experience. Our room had a distinct chemical smell, and, as I have one of those noses, it irritated me no end. We were out until 2.30 p.m., and the room wasn't serviced. Hubby had a snooze after that, so the room was not serviced at all. The buffet was delicious but expensive, $102 per adult. The service at the buffet was good, but at the bar, it was very slow and inconsistent. We will go back to spend more time at Uluru, but Sails will not be our choice. We found it seriously overpriced for what we got.

Dear Goughy60, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Sails in the Desert. We apologise that your experience did not meet your expectations. We understand how these issues can impact your stay and appreciate you bringing them to our attention. We regret that our pricing did not meet your expectations. It may be of interest to know that the operational costs, including supply chain transport to a remote resort like ours, are significantly higher than those of hotels located near major cities. Nonetheless, we appreciate your feedback regarding the buffet and will take it into consideration for future improvements. Kind regards

Lovely Stay just too Expensive for what you get to get to 5star, but a solid 4!!

The stay over all was great we really enjoyed the Sails hotel for Uluru it was just not completely five star particularly for the price you are paying for this. Food and wine was top notch it was all delicious, however it was extremely expensive say $50+ per person for breakfast plus extra for barista coffees. We would 100% recommend doing the native high tea! Some of the hotel downfalls for us: - No drinking water provided in the rooms - everything in the fridge froze even when we turned it down. - Extremely expensive for basic items like breakfast - Fresh crockery not provided in rooms each day even after use. - No fresh milk once opened either - No entertainment onsite - Late checkout was only 10:30 not 12/2pm like most - Pool not heated for winter stays - The bars Ran out of drinks like certain wine etc and close early at 10pm sharp. - Asked for cot for baby and was told it would be in the room had to call twice to get it brought up.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We understand your concerns about the lack of bottled water in the rooms. As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we provide multiple water refill stations conveniently located throughout the resort for guests to use. It may also be helpful to know that operational and supply chain costs for a remote resort like ours are significantly higher than for hotels near major cities. Twice a week, three fully loaded road trains make the 1,663-kilometre trip along the Stuart and Lasseter Highways from Adelaide to Yulara to supply the resort with food and materials, while additional necessities are delivered by trucks making the daily 443-kilometre trip from Alice Springs. Additionally, almost all guests arrive and depart around the same time due to airline schedules, unlike metro hotels with staggered check-ins. This can place extra pressure on our housekeeping team, making late check-outs difficult during busy periods. Being located in such a unique and remote area, we strive to offer many free activities and tours to enhance your stay. However, as we are far from major cities, occasional shortages of certain items can happen, and we regret this occurred during your visit. We sincerely apologise that we did not fully meet your expectations. Guest satisfaction and delivering an exceptional Red Centre experience are very important to us, and we are disappointed we fell short on this occasion. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts.

Sad Sail in the Desert

We were told at reception that our reservation was for last week. We showed the receptionist that we had changed the reservation and had requested email confirmation--which never arrived. The receptionist who helped us was very gracious but she had to call Sydney to get approval. She came back acknowledging that the error was on their part. More than an hour later, we were in our room, called "Superior" but I have seen better Motel 6 rooms in America--and this is not an Motel 6 priced hotel. Bathroom is nicer than the bedroom itself. While we waited, we ordered lunch and our waitress could not have been less enthusiastic or helpful. She first told us we could only get one free beverage (we were given vouchers as a way of apologizing for their error). What she meant was we could only get the (bad) house wine. My daughter ordered a buddha bowl which she said was the saddest buddha bowl she had ever seen. Asking for water and ice was really beyond her abilities.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment you faced during your stay. Your feedback is important, and we take it seriously. If you could please email our feedback department with your booking details, we would be grateful for the opportunity to investigate further and address your concerns. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back

Had been there a few years ago but found overall that it had declined since then. Whilst could not fault the staff we interacted with, and whilst understanding that prices etc would increase, disappointed that breakfast offered was very ordinary for $51.00 per head (and no discount those actually staying there) on top of this you are charged $$$$ if you ask for a barista coffee, ie flat white !!

Dear PulSty, We're glad to hear our staff provided good service, but we’re sorry the breakfast and coffee experience didn’t meet your expectations. We appreciate your comments and will review with our team. Please note that over the years, the operational costs of supply chain transport to a remote resort like ours are significantly higher than those of hotels near major cities. Thank you for choosing to visit Ayers Rock Resort.

Sails in the Desert Falls Short of Five-Star Expectations

Upon arrival we left our bags with reception, leaving all luggage with staff to deliver to the room post check in, however, an item of clothing was not delivered and not located by staff. Sails in the Desert’s pool bar, lobby bar, and buffet consistently delivered disappointing service, long wait times for food and beverages, inconsistent information regarding opening hours, and inattentive staff. Room service followed the same trend. After being told food delivery would be about 30 minutes, we placed a basic order, called twice post 30 minutes for an update, then had to cancel at 75 minutes (due to needing to make a tour booking) with a resort manger who openly expressed the inconvenience we had caused. Due to this we explored other restaurants at the resort with Desert Gardens providing great food, service and experience even though it is a lower rated resort. Housekeeping didn’t tend to the rooms until about 4pm each day. Rooms only provided instant coffee and limited minibar options. This, along with the address from reception staff and the inconsistent service at the resort’s restaurants, left this five-star resort falling short of what we’d hoped for.

Dear 558kyliel, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We're genuinely sorry to hear that your experience at Sails in the Desert did not meet your expectations. The satisfaction of our guests and the ability to provide an exceptional Red Centre experience is important to us and it is therefore extremely disappointing that we were unable to achieve it on this occasion.  It’s encouraging to hear you had a positive experience at Desert Gardens, and we will be sure to pass your kind feedback on to the team there. Your comments have been noted and reviewed with our team. We have used your feedback as a valuable opportunity for training and continuous improvement. Thank you again for staying with us and for bringing these matters to our attention.
