Oh dear. Ten years ago friends and I stayed at mantra on the esplanade and loved it. I wish I had believed the recent reviews. Did we get the worst room? Arrived after seven pm to find closed doors and sad sack reception which even the receptionist could not lift. Harbour view?’ What a joke. Blocked by grubby windows. We were told we could park for free opposite the hotel. Only until 8am. Bathroom mirror all marred with black marks. I am finding this so depressing I just want to escape but have already paid for two nights. This is how to ruin a holiday. This is the first review I have ever left but I just have to let unsuspecting potential clients know.

Great location. Friendly staff. Thats where it ends. You enter the building and it is absolutely freezing. Everyone wearing jumpers. Stupid temperature as you walk outside and its a lovely hot balmy 36 degrees. The room was musty with green mould (difficult to avoid due to Darwin climate) on the exterior and interior windows. The furniture was dated and the couch stained. I requested 2 blankets as the one in the room had white questionable stains on it. There was a fire alarm, which my neighbours stated was the 11th one in a couple of weeks, they didnt bother to evacuate as they said it happens all the time. Mainly due to people opening their doors with the aircon left on, which you need to do to warm up. I ordered breakfast in, which was cold, soggy toast and a small piece of avocado with a huge amount of spinich. Not great for $30. Of which after some gentle persuasion they comped. With thanks. Look, i hope they get themselves sorted for the dry season. I have stayed at a number of hotels in Darwin now and am there frequently. I would not stay here again nor recommend for the price.

I have addressed the room issues with the Rooms Division Manager who will be following this up with her team. We are also sourcing quotes for the window washing and will be sharing them with the body corporate of the building. As for the fire alarms, we have been working with the body corporate and its contractor to mitigate them. I had previously stayed here a number of years ago, so I booked this hotel for 8 nights before reading the recent reviews. I was quite alarmed at the many negative reviews and further alarmed with what shears a standard copy and paste reply from the management team. I've since cancelled and booked an alternate hotel on the esplanade.

No breakfast service as there is no restaurant or room service Unable to shower due to broken foot and shower located in bathtub No room cleaning unless you stay a week Did not realize that the hotel caters more for long term residents rather than short stay visitors

Disappointed with overall cleanliness. Having stayed before, I noticed a difference this trip, and furnishings were stained and smelly, dirty floors, tired & stained carpets, bathrooms were dirty and mouldy, and when I moved the bed to plug in my phone charger there was a pile up of dust under the bed!!! The stove/oven needed a good clean too. Then the smaller things like couldn't use the fridge door to stand bottles in due shelf broken, and ice tray provided was an old plastic one that had cracks in it!!! A pathetic small rubbish bin provided that had to be emptied frequently. Outdoor furniture old and worn out, and most uncomfortable. Table ineffective as uneven surface meant you couldn't even stand a wine glass on it!! Things would have to improve dramatically for me to stay here again I'm sorry to say, as it's a great location with a gorgeous outlook over the water!
