Booked a room in the hotel half a year ago, travelled 10 + hours to get here, and they shuffled us over to the very unimpressive gatehouse. Said it was “better” because it was renovated. It’s a 2nd story basic looking room looking over a parking lot. Nothing like anything they show on their website. We arrived exhausted (at 1 am) with a child and they had us walk across the street to a completely different building. They pulled the same thing last time we stayed here and we were forced to pay for the gold floor which was also not what we booked.

We stayed for 2 nights in a king suite. It was nice but badly proportioned and a bit tatty and dated for the price, for example the a/c unit was leaking the whole time which left us with a cup on the floor. We didnt mention it until checking out as we couldn't be bothered with the moving of rooms or the maintenance team bothering our short stay. The lady at reception didnt seem interested when we mentioned it. Instead she was busy messing up our bill and we got over charged. The breakfast was impeccable, service was fantastic and choice is brilliant, the vermillion restaurant is beautiful. Its a pretty special place but needs a bit of tlc, also some of the staff need a lesson in luxury service particularly the checking in/out team.

We are truly sorry that your stay did have some shortfalls and that we did not have the opportunity to address the HVAC for you. We certainly apologize for the lack of appropriate response and please know that our leaders in the front office are reviewing this. The staff, accommodations, amenities, proximity to shopping in town and numerous wilderness adventures makes this a once-in-a-lifetime world-class experience. We were lucky enough to enjoy the gold section of the hotel with access to a private lounge, concierge, and various perks. Complimentary breakfast, evening canapés, and a full honor bar within the lounge. Other features are a private reception, priority reservations for dining and activities, and personalized concierge services. Check out the very interesting hotel history tour. Off-site, take the gondola to the top of Mount Sulfur where the views are spectacular. Favourite hotel restaurant, the Vermillion Room. Favourite drink, the Vermillion Caesar. The Prime Rib and Le Cheeseburger are a good choice if you love Alberta beef. All around, an extremely enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Exceptional Hotel. Have stayed there many times and thoroughly enjoy it. The Gold floor service and amenities are second to none. No request is denied and accomplished with a smile. I am looking forward to returning again this winter. A Five Star Property

Fairmont Gold - bathroom a disgrace!

We requested a Gold room with twin beds, but were allocated a room (Gold room 590) with a single king bed. The hotel claim that the fault lay with our travel agency, who had evidently booked a King room, rather than a Queen (although clearly adding a request for 2 beds). The reason for the request is that my wife suffers from 'restless legs syndrome', which manifests as periodic involuntary jerking of her legs - hence sharing a bed (even a king-size one) can be quite uncomfortable. As regards the room itself, we were very unhappy about the size of the bathroom. We fail to see how a 5-star hotel can offer, at a premium Gold rate, a room where you cannot enter the bathroom and close the door, without having to step into the shower cubicle to allow the door to your pass your body!
