Very disappointing stay

We checked in at 6pm on Saturday and were initially relieved to have booked an Executive Double, as the room was quite small and far below the standard we’ve experienced at other London hotels. In fact, our first thought was how fortunate we were not to have booked a standard room. After about 30 minutes in the room, it became clear that the temperature was uncomfortably high. Before heading out to dinner, we left the key card in the slot to ensure the air conditioning would run and cool the room in our absence. Unfortunately, when we returned at 10:30pm, the room was still extremely hot and the air conditioning had not worked. I contacted reception, and a cleaner was sent who simply advised to “give it two minutes” – something we had already done multiple times. She then suggested I speak with reception again. At around 10:35pm, I went down to reception and was told there were no alternative rooms available, no upgrades, and no availability at any sister hotels either. I was advised to find another hotel and was told I’d be refunded within 14 days. At that point, we had already spent £600 on this stay and it was completely unreasonable to expect us to secure and pay for new accommodation at nearly 11pm. Only after pushing the issue was it agreed the hotel would cover the cost and arrange a taxi. Suddenly, an Executive King room on the 3rd floor became available. Thankfully, the air conditioning in that room was working and the temperature was manageable. It was particularly frustrating to later learn that hotel staff were already aware of air conditioning issues on the 4th and 5th floors, yet this was never mentioned to us at any point before or during check-in. A partial refund was offered, but again, I’ve had to follow up repeatedly to receive it. To add to the disappointment, breakfast was served at Bella Italia and was well below the standard one would expect from a hotel of this pricing and positioning. Overall, what was meant to be a relaxing weekend away turned into a frustrating experience filled with poor communication, lack of transparency, and avoidable stress. We won’t be returning.

As a Diamond member I did not received the welcome amenities, room was ok but the view was over a central court with rubish scattered around and very dirty windows.

Functional hotel with good location for Paddington Station

This is a decent Mercure property very close to Paddington station. It's in a heritage building with a lovely facade. The rooms are modern though pretty small, but that's fairly normal for London. Rooms on the top floor lose a little headspace due to the sloping roof - we had to watch our heads in the bathroom! Worth mentioning is the excellent provision of power-points next to the bed - three on each side - which is very helpful in the 21st century. Worth noting that the hotel only has a single small lift (the sign inside says only 3 people at a time). We never had to wait for it, but I can imagine that in busy times the wait for the lift could get rather lengthy. The hotel is connected to a restaurant, Bella Italia, which serves breakfast cooked to order.

I had a pleasant stay at Mercure London Hyde Park Hotel. The location is fantastic — close to public transport and in a charming area. The room was clean and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was welcoming. However, I was a bit disappointed by a couple of things. The room was quite small, which made it feel a little cramped. Also, as a Gold member, I’m used to certain perks like room upgrades or amenities being prepared in advance. This time, I had to request them, which slightly took away from the usual smooth experience I enjoy at Accor hotels. That said, the staff were friendly and professional, and the hotel itself is well maintained. I would consider staying here again, especially for the location.

A good option close to Paddington Station

The hotel is very well located with about an easy 10 minute walk to Paddington Station and plenty of restaurant options along the way. The hotel is small with extremely narrow corridors but with rooms that surprise. The rooms are a reasonable size, nicely decorated and well equipped. There is no bar or restaurant but lots of options very close by. A very good option when needing something close to Paddington Station.
