Very dangerous area, filthy and does not have parking facilities as advertised.

We checked into this hotel late last night for a 4 night stay, but we have decided to check out early this morning to find more suitable accommodation. This hotel is in a very dangerous location, close to the Brussels Midi station. I was not aware before booking but there its lots of information online regarding it being the most dangerous area in Europe! High rates of violent crime, thefts and drug crime. It's described online as a hell hole- and that is how I would describe it. Rubbish, filth and crime visible everywhere right outside the doors to this hotel. When we arrived we discovered that we couldn't use the car park due to height restrictions. We were told by reception that it wasn't safe to leave our car outside and given directions to a car park over a mile away. I am very grateful for the honesty and help from the security men and reception on duty at the time but had a very different experience this morning. We are travelling with our young son and would be returning to the hotel late in the evenings. The mile walk from the car park after dark is just not acceptable in this very unsafe area, therefore we are having to check out early and stay somewhere more suitable. The hotel manager is refusing to refund us for the 3 nights we won't be staying even though she does admit we should have been given the information regarding the car park night restrictions. She says it's safe for us to walk over a mile late at night from our car, a quick google search will tell you this place is not at all safe for anyone to be walking at night, let alone with a child. I now have to fine and pay for another hotel as I won't put myself or my son at risk. I believe it's very unfair to charge us given the circumstances, regardless of their policy's. It's not our fault we weren't given the information we needed before booking so why should we be out of pocket. As well as this the hotel really isn't what you would expect for the amount charged. We have a broken light next to the bed with wires hanging out and found food tucked under the curtain. Nice.

I have no negatives from the Mercure hotel. We stayed in one in the U.K. recently this exceeded it massively. The rooms were lovely, clean and spacious. The reception staff are friendly. Jacuzzi / spa area is an added bonus. Location is great to access the train station and Eurostar, and only 20 minutes walk into the main centre, but plenty of stuff around the hotel too. Wouldn’t recommend the area for lone travellers though.

This is just a 5-minute walk from Bruxelles midi/zuid so perfect if you only have a couple of nights and want to get to the train without issues. Great spacious room and bathroom. Fairly quiet altho some residual noise from other rooms. Bed was comfy and the wifi was strong. Location is a little on the edgy side being so close to station and some slightly rougher neighbourhoods but it's an easy walk into town and seems safe. Be aware of a massive transport infrastructure project in front of and near hotel that will last next three years so not overly aesthetically pleasing.

Good hotel, well located for rail travellers.

Very comfortable hotel - clean, good facilities, excellent breakfast. I deal if arriving in Brussels by train - less than 10 minutes walk from Brussels Midi station. The area is currently undergoing a lot of roadworks and alteration for a new tram service - which makes the area itself less attractive - but there is no noise inside the hotel. Brussels centre is within 20 minutes walk, half an hour to the Grand Place.

I gave the hotel a 3 becasue the hotel itself is so nice and the staff were very friendly but the area is so bad that it knocks off the 2 stars otherwise it gets a 5 I'm 6ft3 and can look after myself but I was even a little scared walking around here in the morning so wouldn't recommend this hotel.if traveling with a young family.
