A dream of quiet, understated elegance and care by wonderful staff. The best hotel experience ever

Words cannot express the absolute pleasure we experienced at this Hotel. It was a dream. The quiet dignified elegance, decor the most beautiful and understated luxury without ostentation or opulence. The atmosphere everywhere is calm, quiet and gentle. The staff treated us with care as though we were special even though we are quite ordinary people who have saved for a long time to be guests. We stayed 3 nights in the heritage wing before going to SaPa and then returned for one night in the opera wing. Both wings are superb with exactly the same excellent service. The heritage wing was extra special as there remains the elegance and historic aspects of French Colonialism. At the Heritage wing we had the opportunity to visit the underground bomb shelter used during the bombing raids if the Vietnam/American War. The pool area, the boutique and the épicerie are elegant, understated with everything perfectly presented. We loved our breakfasts, club sandwiches and quiet evening drinks in the Atrium. I would like to make special mention of the staff. Not only did they represent the quiet elegance and beauty of, male and female, of the Vietnamese people, it was their care, genuine kindness and assistance that made the hotel so much above any other that ai have stayed in. I would also make special mention of the hair salon. Never in my life have I had hair treatment so wonderful by not one but 2 lovely hairdressers at the same time. I paid just a little extra for a treatment which was amazing and included a head and neck massage. The concierge and reception people were also wonderful. I would fly back to Hanoi just to stay once more at the Metropole, hopefully in the same heritage room which had a beautiful painting that I could not stopping looking at . The pillows were to die for! Thankyou everyone at the Metropole for what you did for us. Warmest regards

My three-day stay at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was quite incredible and unlike anywhere I had previously stayed in the world. The check-in quickly became complicated when the credit card I used to pay for the room (two months prior) was not the same as the credit card I used for the deposit. The manager was called and I became upset and overwhelmed. I contacted my brother to assist me, as I had apparently (and inadvertently) broken Vietnamese banking regulations. The manager, Mr Dao, was very understanding throughout and offered to accompany me to my upgraded room to finalise the details of my check-in. This is when I realised that I had been upgraded to the Charlie Chaplin suite for the duration of my stay. The suite, the butler service, the restaurants, breakfast at Le Beaulieu, high tea at Le Club Bar and happy hour at the Bamboo Bar, dinner at the Spice Garden, coffee at La Terrace and people watching, were all top-notch. In appreciation, I penned a letter to Mr Dao: Dear Mr Dao, I wanted to write and let you know how much I appreciate your assistance earlier this week and to thank you for the upgrade you have given me. I felt bad when I got upset and also embarrassed. Your patience and kindness helped me a great deal. In all the confusion, I can remember you saying “We want you to be happy, Miss Anne”. That will stay with me, Mr Dao. I won't forget. Since Tuesday, I have tried to make the most of each day and I have had a truly memorable time here. And that is down to you, Mr Dao. I appreciate everything you arranged for me and I also appreciate the excellent staff here, particularly Tony, Hoa and Hoa, and Van from Le Beaulieu. Wishing you and your family health and happiness, many thanks from Anne P On receiving my letter, Mr Dao summoned his teams of staff (I heard this later), including the reception and concierge teams. He read my letter to his staff, and said that this is what they aim for, in trying to meet guests' needs. Needless to say, I am planning a second stay at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel.

Only stayed for 3 nights at the start of our trip for Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand. Really nice hotel, perfectly located, comfortable room & breakfast was seriously good. The bar was amazing & all the staff were really friendly & welcoming plus a great bonus of a very generous happy hour. The Spice Garden restaurant within the hotel was outstanding (you need to reserve) excellent menu & very reasonably priced for a city centre hotel. We ate here each night of our stay. Service was excellent but a special thank you to Linh who was very helpful with menu suggestions & recommendations. Linh was professional but genuinely friendly and always had a ready smile for all the guests. Our score of 4 was due to a slight issue with housekeeping re replenishment of English breakfast tea when I was told they didn’t stock it despite the fact I had an empty sachet in my hand whilst on the the phone to her but it was still a no from her ! Management were very apologetic regarding this incident. We found the front desk staff surly but although no excuse they were always busy. All other staff very helpful & friendly and would recommend this hotel as a perfect base to visit Hanoi.
